Unleash your preschooler’s creativity at Art Play by Bondi Beach Playgroups! Join us for a term of fortnightly art classes, focussed on interactive activities like process-based art, sensory exploration, and imaginative preschool crafts. Each session offers something new, with activities that include construction, loose parts play, large-scale painting, printmaking, and more. As your child explores these creative experiences, their skills and confidence will grow.
Led by a trained educator, this community class is offered at a subsidised rate to encourage artistic expression and development within our local community. Parent and carer participation is key, as you’ll work alongside your child, learning, collaborating, and fostering creativity together. These sessions are not only designed for children—parents and carers will also gain valuable insights into their child’s growth through creative play.
This class is perfect for preschoolers aged 3 to 5 years old, with accompanying “babes in arms” welcome.
Term 4, 2024
Term 4 dates will be Wednesdays, 10am to 11am, at Wairoa Ave on:
6 November
20 November
4 December
18 December
How do I book in?
Please send an email to bondibeachplaygroups@gmail.com and we will book you in! Payment is required upfront for the term ($60 per family) via bank transfer. Places are limited, and bookings are essential (no casuals/walk-ins available).
Is this like a regular playgroup session?
No – this is an art class, and quite different to our regular playgroup sessions. The class will be led by a trained educator, who will lead the group through a planned activity. No toys or other play experiences are provided.
Is this suitable for toddlers?
Our age guide is 3 to 5 years, due to the nature of the materials (small items) and equipment that may be used (scissors, glue guns). Confident, older 2 year olds may be suitable to join – please send us a message to discuss.
Can I do a trial class?
Unfortunately we will only be offering a package of 4 classes. This is because the program is designed to progress and expand each week, and familiarity of the attendees/educator is highly beneficial.
Are make-up classes available if I miss a session?
No make-up classes or refunds are available. This is a subsidised community class, and we do not have financial capacity to offer make-up sessions. Classes are not transferable.
Do parents/carers need to stay for the session?
Yes. This class requires parent/carer participation, to both enhance the learning outcomes and also provide secondary supervision/assistance (i.e. the educator may demonstrate a technique/activity, parents/carers can then assist their child). All participants will be involved in packing-up the activity, in the spirit that learning about mess means learning how to clean-up!
Can a younger sibling join in?
This class is suitable for children 3 to 5 years, due to the nature of the materials (small items) and equipment that may be used (scissors, glue guns). Confident, older 2 year olds may be suitable to participate, and babies in carriers/prams/arms can accompany a sibling.. If you plan to bring a 1 year old, be prepared for a juggle and very close supervision of your 1 year old. If this is your situation, we suggest to team up with another parent/carers in the same situation, and tag-team to ensure the class runs smoothly for all.
What should we wear?
Not your fine white linen! This class could get messy, and we encourage both you and your child to dress accordingly. Smocks will be available.
What if my child doesn’t enjoy the class or struggles to engage?
t’s completely normal for some children to take time to settle into new environments and activities. We encourage you to persist, as it can take a few sessions for kids to feel comfortable and fully engage. Our experienced educator will work closely with each family to ensure that every child is given ample opportunity to participate at their own pace. Over time, children often gain confidence, develop new skills, and become more engaged in the creative process.
Do I need to bring any materials or supplies?
Generally all materials will be provided. The educator may request you bring some optional recycled materials to certain classes (eg toilet rolls, cardboard box, stick from the park).
Can I join the class mid-term if I miss the start?
Depending on capacity, we may be able to accept late enrolments. Please enquire via email or direct message.
Are casual/drop-in classes available?
Unfortunately no. This is because the program is designed to progress and expand each week, and familiarity of the attendees/educator is highly beneficial.
